Seventh Inning Stretch

"If we all did the things we are capable of doing,
we would literally astound ourselves."
Thomas Alva Edison

Trinity is an amazing place!
Almost daily, my students astound me with interesting solutions to their assignments. Over the course of this year, students in various classes have been exposed to the following media:
graphite
charcoal
conte
ink
watercolor
egg tempera
acrylic
oil
serigraphy
etching
woodcut
linocut
monoprint
marbleizing
pinhole photography
cyanotype process
wood
clay
wire
papermaking

Students also experienced the history of Western Art through weekly lectures, beginning with Giotto and ending with artists working in the present. And that is just in the Studio Art classes! My Creative Writing students have been busy with poetry, plays and essays- some of which you will read in Ink Vein, Trinity's Literary Magazine (to be released in May). The web design class completed basic XHTML, started their own personal website, and are currently working on personal blogs. So, what is in store for 4th Quarter?

Fourth Quarter is about options. Students now have the opportunity to explore media through independent study. Some have chosen screen-printing, others pinhole photography. A few will be working on the Visual Timeline Mural while a handful will try their hand at encaustic. Students in the Creative Writing Class have the opportunity to participate in Script Frenzy (for more on Script Frenzy click here). Other options include alternative processes and lessons in Photoshop. There are, of course, always students who will say, "Just tell me what to do! Don't make me pick!" They will be completing drawing and painting assignments which focus on modeling (shading), perspective and color theory.

This quarter should prove to be another exciting one.
Thank you for the privilege of allowing me to teach your child.
