Eric Hurtgen
speaking to the students

"Work with good people.
It makes your work better."
Eric Hurtgen

Artist/Musician Eric Hurtgen shared his thoughts Thursday-the final speaker for the year. Eric said,

“Information creates calluses on our mind that can lead to cynicism.”

To combat this thought, I believe educators are called not to provide students with answers, but rather challenge them with better questions.

Here are a few questions for my students:

What are you trying to say? For what purpose?
Is your work inviting (from which side does the
door open) or, does it say, “Go away!” ?
Does your piece show good use of material or
            is it wasteful?
Is what you are trying to say valid?
Is your work a statement or a conversation?
Does your work allow room for the viewer to participate?
